Wade Fishing

Wade fishing is very popular in the Coastal Bend and perhaps the purest form of angling. Whether simply walking into the water from shore, riding for miles in the motorboat to reach a remote destination, wading into the surf or slipping out of a kayak to stretch your legs, the most important part of wading is to shuffle your feet. We have stingrays here. And while they rarely stick a barb in an angler’s foot or leg, it’s good to know the best prevention. Even when wearing stingray resistant boots or shin guards, it is wise to shuffle your feet along the bottom, particularly in warm waters, when walking through sand or wherever you cannot see the bottom. This generally allows a stingray to swim away harmlessly.
