Clif Moss Nature Education Center
The mission of the Moss Center is to provide library materials, exhibits and programs which educate the community about the natural history of South Texas and Texas, past and present. A special emphasis is placed on birds and birding as the Corpus Christi area is in a major migratory flyway. The Moss Center features a collection of 400 books on birds and nature in South Texas & Texas, a monthly schedule of programs and exhibits, a media area with live feed images of birds in the area, and original artwork. Northwest Branch Library has one of a four volume set of Audubon’s Double –Elephant folio commissioned by the National Audubon Society (NAS) and published in 1985 by Abbeville Press to commemorate the bicentennial of John Audubon's birth. The original work was published by John Audubon in London, 1827-1938. The valuable and rare books were donated to the library by Ed and Janet Harte. Ed Hart was Chairman of the NAS from 1975 to 1979. The display case was funded by the Audubon Outdoor Club of Corpus Christi and dedicated to Lee Bright & Betty Tompkins. One page is turned in the book every two weeks to allow visitors to the library the opportunity to see each page showcasing John James Audubon’s life like and dramatic artwork. The Northwest book collection has over 54,000 items. The best circulating part of the collection is the nearly 1,000 Books-on-Tape. 3202 McKinzie Rd., 78410 • (361)241-9329 |
