Resident Birds
Of course there are birds that never migrate or move (or at least only wander short distances). These can be seen every day of the year. Many of these residents are only found in South Texas, so the time or season for your travel doesn't matter a great deal. These include specialties such as Ringed and Green Kingfisher, Long-billed Thrasher, Audubon's Oriole, Olive Sparrow, White-tipped Dove, and Green Jay. The shores are covered with shorebirds and wading birds, including the Roseate Spoonbill, Brown Pelican, White Ibis, Great Blue Heron, Little Blue Heron, and Tricolored Heron. It shouldn’t be hard to find Great Egret, Snowy Egret, and Cattle Egrets year round. Cardinals, doves, and pigeons, gulls, and grackles are very common all year round as well. And the list goes on!
