Where to Go

The Coastal Bend is home to the world's first birding trail – the Great Texas Coastal Birding Trail. Texas Parks and Wildlife, along with the Texas Department of Transportation, sponsored this early effort which culminated in a ground-breaking ceremony in Rockport. From that inauspicious start birding trails have spread worldwide, and it all began here.

This site pays homage to this precedent-setting effort by retaining the loop-and-site structure of the trail. Each loop consists of a set of sites or waypoints that are clustered geographically. Each loop represents a few days birding, while to visit all of the sites in the Coastal Bend would take weeks.

We have organized all of the information related to these sites in a web database that you can access. You can search by county, loop, season, even by species of special interest.
