Floundering

While anglers enjoy catching flounder with rod and reel, the Coastal Bend also offers some of the best flounder gigging throughout the year. The best time to catch flounder is during their fall migration to the gulf, typically from October to December, in the channels and passes leading to the Gulf. A recent statewide rule now forbids flounder gigging in November, when the greatest number of spawning females move offshore.

But the rule allows rod and reel angles to keep two flounder per day during November. During the remainder of the year, the daily recreational bag limit on flounder is five per day. They make excellent table fare.
