Pier Fishing

Often piers are designed to give those anglers without a boat an opportunity to fish farther into the gulf or to fish waters otherwise inaccessible to them. Bob Hall Pier on Padre Island and Horace Caldwell Pier on Mustang Island offer year-round fishing access to the gulf for a small fee. Rod rental is available.

Along the JFK Causeway, Red Dot and Cos Way piers offer day and night fishing in the Laguna Madre. There are two 500-foot free fishing piers, one at Kaufer-Hubert Park and one at Riviera Beach, which are popular trout spots for non-boaters.

Several piers also are available along the Corpus Christi Bayfront and the JFK Causeway, which spans the Laguna Madre onto Padre Island. Clem’s Marina, Marker 37 Marina, Red Dot Marina and Cos Way Marina each offer nighttime fishing along the causeway. These lighted piers offer safe convenient fishing, which often is best at night. During the cooler months, some of these piers offer anglers their best opportunity to catch a bull black drum. These big spawners reach weights of 30 to 40 pounds and are perhaps the biggest fish most anglers will ever catch in the bay.
