When to Come
| Spring | Summer | Fall | Winter |
Spring (February - May)
When the waters warm up, the fish start moving. The average air temperature is 75 degrees in March, 80 degrees in April, and 85 degrees in May. Spring time is also a colorful time of year in Corpus Christi with most wildflowers in bloom. Paddling and camping is best this time of year. With decent rainfall, March and April support many butterflies and moths that can be seen migrating through or just in their spring life cycle as the flowers start to bloom. Be weary of high winds with changing spring weather and last minute, quick moving cold fronts. Birds are passing back through on their way home and air is filled with the buzz of top waters slapping the surface.
Summer (June - September)
This is when the redfish are waving and the temperatures can reach 100. Fun in the sun is what it is all about playing in the water, fishing, shelling or just sightseeing. Be prepared to protect yourself from exposure to the sun, it doesn't take long! Use lots of sunscreen, clothing to cover up, and drink water, water, water! Hummingbirds migrate through mid August until the end of September. Monarch butterflies migrate through mid September, and then all the others keep coming through the fall.
Fall (October - 1st of December)
This area is a stopping point for many butterflies throughout the winter; it is not unusual to see 5 or 6 different kinds in one day. Best fishing you could wish for… these are when those "magic days" happen! The waters are still a comfortable temperature depending on the cold fronts.
Winter (December - January)
This is the best time to scout your favorite areas, low tides leave the bottom exposed and fish are more concentrated in the obvious holes. The winds are generally calmer this time of year making paddling a more comfortable experience.
