Texas State Aquarium
Grand Opening of Caribbean Journey on May 13, 2017
Discover the amazing underwater worlds of the Gulf of Mexico, the Caribbean, and beyond at the Texas State Aquarium. Travel on an aquatic journey from the shores of the Gulf of Mexico out into the open sea to encounter thousands of animals representing more than 320 species. Experience dive shows, animal feedings, hands-on interactions with sharks and stingrays, and entertaining and educational presentations featuring dolphins, birds, and otters. Explore a wetland habitat in Nearshore, and spend some time in Living Shores, where you can touch starfish and urchins! Get up close and personal with Atlantic bottlenose dolphins from above and below the water in Dolphin Bay, and look to the skies as hawks, owls and falcons soar through the Hawn Wild Flight Theater. Visit the Islands of Steel exhibit, modeled after an offshore oil platform, where sharks, rays and sea turtles live among stingrays and schools of fish. Touch and hand-feed stingrays at Stingray Lagoon, admire the majestic birds of prey in Eagle Pass, and spy on reptiles basking on the shores of Swamp Tales. Watch as sea turtles gracefully glide through the waters of Tortuga Cay, and see North American river otters play the day away in Otter Creek. Catch a bite to eat at the Pepsi Shoreline Grill, and cool off in our H-E-B Splash Park.
Even more exciting experiences await in Caribbean Journey, opening on May 13, 2017. Caribbean Journey will be more than double the Aquarium’s size, bringing the vibrant sights and sounds of the Yucatan Peninsula to the shores of South Texas. Take an adventure through the jungles, coastal lagoons, caves, and coral reefs of the Sian Ka’an Biosphere Reserve and enjoy up-close interactions with flamingos, crocodiles, birds, sharks, and other exotic species.
Open since 1990, the Texas State Aquarium's mission is to engage people with animals, inspire appreciation for our seas, and support wildlife conservation. Each year, the Texas State Aquarium brings the stories of marine and coastal animals and their habitats to life through its many exhibits. Each and every visit to the Aquarium opens the door to new and exciting animal discoveries and reminds us of our responsibility to those whose world we share. In addition to its engaging exhibits and presentation, the Aquarium also reaches over 77,000 children each year through its education programs and contributes to meaningful research and conservation programs around the world. Through its Second Chances Wildlife Rehabilitation Program, the Aquarium is also able to rescue and treat hundreds of sick or injured animals every year and release them back into their natural habitats.
