Corpus Christi and the Coastal Bend as a whole, are at one with the water. You can’t escape it here! Bodies of water are sewn into the fabric of our beautiful city. Although, some visitors might not be interested in diving head first but still want to make the most of their trip. That’s okay! These activities will get you up close and personal with the waters of the Gulf without having to actually swim.
Hop on board the Wharf Cat as it explores every nook and cranny of the Aransas Bay’s Aransas National Wildlife Refuge. Beautiful, majestic whooping cranes make their homes in this area, but on your way to see them, you’ll be able to catch sight of many other interesting bird species. Whooping Crane offers tours in both the summer and winter months so you can see wildlife all year round.
Fly between 200 and 300 feet above the crystal waters of the Gulf of Mexico and the Lydia Ann Channel. This is a viewpoint reserved for just you and the birds. See iconic Coastal Bend landmarks from a new perspective like the Aransas Pass Lighthouse and Turtle Cove. Since each takeoff and landing is done from the boat, there is no need to ever touch the water!
Sail the high seas on an authentic pirate cruise! Explore the waters of Aransas Bay just outside the boundaries of Corpus Christi aboard a pirate galleon. The swashbuckling pirate crew will be keeping you landlubbers entertained with sword fights, music and dancing, and an intriguing treasure hunt. Choose from a number of different adventures such as the “Be a Pirate Adventure Cruise” or the “Bet Yer Booty” cruise, an adult gambling cruise. Don’t worry about rain - if forced to cancel due to weather conditions, the Red Dragon crew will reschedule for the next available trip that suits you or will grant you a full refund.
This is as close as you can get to the water without being in the water! Experience the Coastal Bend with a guide who knows the area like the back of his hand. Hector Rios has been giving professional tours of the Bend for over 25 years. Paddle your way around the Lighthouse Lakes, Mustang Island State Park’s paddling trail and the Aransas National Wildlife Refuge. Reel in a few fish on your way, and make sure to keep an eye out for the hidden wildlife who make their homes here.
Head to the Red Dot Fishing Pier to wet a line from the comfort of solid ground. Rent your poles and crab nets right here at the pier for just $2 apiece. Then, hop in your own boat and put in off the pier or throw your line out right there from the edge of the pier. For most, fishing is the most relaxing water activity.
Just because you’re doing a water-related activity doesn’t mean you have to get your feet (or any other part of your body) wet! These activities will allow you to enjoy the serenity and excitement of the water without jumping in.
