9 Inspiring Ways You'll Experience Art at Arts Alive:
Corpus Christi's very own Dead Creek Theatre Company will be performing "A Midsummer Night's Dream" both Saturday and Sunday afternoon. Gather around and feel immersed in the theatre performance!
Watch performances by the Island Dance Company. Experience talented performers right before your eyes and become inspired by the story they tell. Performances will take place on both Saturday and Sunday during the event.
Watch a special pottery glazing technique live in action! Raku firing is one of the most exciting processes in ceramics. After you place your pottery into a raku kiln (or in this case, a trash can on fire), the anticipation builds as you wait for that final moment when the intense heat begins to melt the raku glazes. See this process for yourself at Arts Alive. Firing sessions AND wheel throwing will be demonstrated throughout the duration of the festival.
Ever heard of a steamroller making art? Watch this massive machine create beautiful artwork. The steam roller presses onto a block of wood to create wood block printing. You can check out the wood blocks being carved indoors, before going under the steamroller!
What's a festival without some music? Catch some good vibes inside the Art Center Courtyard through the tunes of local artists. Check out music from the Acapella group Sweet Adelines, hear the smooth sounds from Tom Whitehurst and David Reichenbacher.
Recently, food has become more and more creative. It is not only a substance to sustain you, but an artistic experience to take pictures of, talk about and enjoy. The food truck culture here in Corpus Christi does not shy away from creating the best product. Arts Alive has selected some of the best food trucks from around the Coastal Bend, so you can indulge in art not only for your eyes, but for your mouth.
Community art projects are such an amazing display of strangers collaborating and coming together to make something beautiful. This year the community participation art project will be a huge 2-story chicken wired sculpture that will go across the side wall of the Art Center!
Get your hands dirty with art projects! The art and creativity zone will offer endless amounts of projects throughout the day. There will be art activities with the Corpus Christi Museum of Science and History, South Texas Botanical Gardens and leather tooling demonstrations. Get creative with different art activities like creating boho floral headbands, dream catchers, branch painting and SO. MUCH. MORE.
Get those shopping bags ready! You can check out TONS of art vendors selling some of their finest products. The Arts Alive committee has carefully chosen an assortment of talented art vendors that offer a slew of items. Expect to find paintings, printmaking, jewelry, glass art, and much more! There will even be a vendor who makes drums! Find a little of everything and become fully immersed in the art!
