Corpus Christi for the Convention Guest
Traveling for work doesn’t mean there’s no time for play. If you’re lucky enough to have a convention or business meeting in Corpus Christi, here are some of the top attractions within a short drive or walk from the American Bank Center.
Stop here first! The Corpus Christi Visitor Information Center specializes in helping every traveler make the most of their trip to Corpus Christi. Pick up maps, coupons and even a souvenir or two before you hit the streets.
Bonus: Take advantage of the free wi-fi on the patio any time of day.
Located at the north end of Shoreline Blvd., the Art Museum of South Texas is just a hop, skip and a jump away from the convention center. With admission under $10, this nearby attraction is easy to work into any schedule and budget.
Bonus: No time for a full on tour? Stop in for a bite at Hester’s Café located within the Museum. No admission required, simply check in with the gift shop before you enter.
If time allows, take a leisurely stroll through the Corpus Christi Watergardens on the way to the Corpus Christi Museum of Science and History. Home to several pieces of the City’s public art collection, this premier park is the perfect place for a picnic lunch.
Bonus: Pick up a complimentary book about the public art collection at the Corpus Christi Visitor Information Center to learn a little back story of each piece.
Take a break from the convention center and enjoy a stroll through nearby Heritage Park, a collection of 12 historic homes rich in architecture, history and culture. Use this walking tour as a guide to learn the story behind Corpus Christi’s heritage.
Learn more about the influential names on the homes in Heritage Park at the Corpus Christi Museum of Science and History. Get a glimpse at the many different cultures that have impacted the area throughout Corpus Christi history or get hands-on in the H-E-B Science Center. Either way, there’s something for everyone at this one-of-a-kind museum.
Technically, the Corpus Christi Municipal Marina is home to several points of interest nestled together on Corpus Christi Bay. Check out the Mirador de la Flor honoring Selena Quintanilla Perez, take a bay cruise on the Japonica out of Harrison’s Landing or grab some fresh shrimp from one of the local shrimp boats.
Bonus: Head to the Marina on Wednesday evenings around 5:30 p.m. to watch the sailboat races in Corpus Christi Bay.
If you’re short on time but want to experience a little bit of everything, hop on a Segway from SegCity Segway Tours. Call ahead to make a reservation for a one or two hour tour through downtown Corpus Christi. Never ridden a Segway? No problem. It’s probably the most enjoyable way to experience the Corpus Christi Bayfront.
