Heritage Park Transforms into a Jazz Mecca in Corpus Christi at the Jazz Festival
Jazz may live in NOLA, but for three days in October, it takes a little vacation in Corpus Christi at the Texas Jazz Festival. For 57 years, the Texas Jazz Festival Society has brought this great tradition to South Texas. This is a signature event that is not to be missed - October 20 - 22, from 5:30 pm to midnight on Friday, noon to midnight on Saturday and noon to 9:00 p.m. on Friday.
Heritage Park is transformed into a haven for jazz lovers, where folks converge to celebrate their love of soulful tunes. Featuring three performance stages,with hundreds of vendors selling hand-crafted and unique items and food booths galore, here are just a few reasons why you don’t want to miss this little piece of jazz heaven.
YOU NEED JAZZ IN YOUR LIFE
Jazz is one of the United States’ greatest artistic gifts to the world. And Texas Jazz Festival brings together jazz talent from across the United States right to downtown Corpus Christi. The 2017 festival features Tom Braxton, Dirty River Dixie Band, Cats Don’t Sleep from San Antonio and Beto and The Fairlanes, just to name a few.
YOU NEED SALSA IN YOUR LIFE
For the second year, the Texas Jazz Festival adds a little salsa to jazz. The Salsa Under the Stars experience just down the street from the main festival site brings jazz and salsa fusion to a whole new level. If you want move your feet to a Latin beat, make sure to check out the bands at this stage. This stage is only open Friday and Saturday evening, so make sure to catch the action at the Congressman Solomon P. Ortiz International Center.
YOU NEED A MAGICAL NIGHT WITH YOUR FAMILY AND FRIENDS
With historical homes as a backdrop, the Texas Jazz Festival really feels like you’re strolling down a New Orleans street with jazz leading you from one end of the festival to the next. With a fantastic beer garden, a wine garden and opportunities to get cozy with jazz, there’s nothing like the Texas Jazz Festival in the fall.
Here’s a pro tip: Take Park and Ride provided by the Corpus Christi Regional Transportation Authority. You can park at Corpus Christi City Hall, located at 1201 Leopard Street, or Nueces County Courthouse at 901 Leopard Street. A quick trip on the B line will get you to the Texas Jazz Festival in about 10 minutes — and you don’t have to pay for parking
