Recovery Stories - Hurricane Harvey: Art Museum of South Texas
As the Coastal Bend recovers and rebuilds in the wake of Hurricane Harvey, anyone in search of art as a mode of healing can visit the Art Museum of South Texas.
The museum’s buildings received only minor damage and the many works on display were safely protected inside the museum’s vault. After a week without power, the museum was able to open to visitors.
Following Harvey’s landfall near Rockport as a Category 4 hurricane, the museum reached out to the Rockport Center for the Arts to partner with them to host their exhibition Birds in Art from September 28 through November 19.
The museum is also continuing with its own exhibition Digital Darkroom from the Annenberg Space for Photography in Los Angeles. The exhibition, which runs from September 22 through December 31, explores work that combines art and technology.
The Art Museum of South Texas is located at 1902 N. Shoreline Blvd. While you’re immersed in the creativity on display, stop by Hester’s at the Art Museum’s Dobson Café for lunch!
