Recovery Stories - Hurricane Harvey: Holiday Inn Corpus Christi Downtown Marina
If there’s one word Kelly Saucedo uses to describe the experience at the Holiday Inn Corpus Christi Downtown Marina during Hurricane Harvey, it’s “family.”
The hotel opened its doors to evacuees and first responders, which included the American Red Cross and AEP Texas. Staff converted the ballrooms into makeshift sleeping areas with 240 cots laid out. Saucedo, corporate travel manager for the hotel, said that guests and staff did their best to find smiles and laughs while weathering the storm.
In order to help make guests feel as comfortable as possible, management temporarily suspended its no-pet policy and allowed guests to bring their pets inside. Staff set up a space indoors where pet owners could take their animals to the restroom. The hotel also made discounted meals available for guests.
Although some repairs are still underway, Saucedo says that the hotel is fully operational and the staff is dedicated to keeping it that way.
