Starry, Starry Corpus Christi Night

by Visit Corpus Christi Texas

The stars at night are big and bright in Corpus Christi! Coupled with the Gulf breeze and the sounds of the waves hitting the shoreline, stargazing can be quite the memorable experience. Mustang Island State Park and the Padre Island National Seashore in Corpus Christi as well as nearby Goose Island State Park in Rockport offer great opportunities for stargazing in the Coastal Bend.

Starry Night In Corpus

The best times for stargazing are usually after a cold front or during a hot summer night, according to experts.

Check out Mustang Island State Park’s website or Facebook page for updates on stargazing parties and special events like meteor showers!

At the Padre Island National Seashore’s South Beach, (five miles south of the Malaquite Visitor Center), there is minimal light interference and this decreases as one travels further into increasingly primitive surroundings. There also is the North End Observatory near the Malaquite Visitor Center parking lot, an area designated for stargazing.

Goose Island State Park is another great location for stargazing. Visit Goose Island State Park’s website for updates on stargazing events. Park rangers give astronomy lessons and tips on how to use star wheels and other stargazing tools.

Do you know the difference between the Big Dipper and the Little Dipper? It’s time for a road trip to the Coastal Bend to learn about astronomy! Don’t forget your binoculars, telescope and blankets to enjoy a starry, starry night on the beach.
