Malaquite Visitor Center
The Malaquite Visitor’s Center, located on North Padre Island, is open year-round (with the exception of Christmas Day) from 9 a.m. - 5 p.m. In the corner parking lot is the Malaquite Picnic Shelter, where you and your family can sit under some shade while taking in the beautiful view of the white sandy beach. If you’re looking for something fun to do with your family in the early morning, sea turtle releases take place at 6:45 a.m. at the beach in front of the center!
Stop here to begin your adventure exploring the longest stretch of undeveloped barrier island on the planet – or check in here before a day at one of Texas' most beloved beaches. Cars are not allowed on this pristine beach, but there is ample and convenient parking. The center is made up of a covered deck, two viewing platforms, an auditorium, museum, bookstore, and gift shop. Personal hygiene and sun care products are sold, but ice, food, firewood and fishing licenses are not, so come prepared! The visitor center holds a number of educational programs and is the place to sign up to witness annual turtle releases and to register for overnight camping.
