A Heatwave of Summer's Hottest Shows 2016

by Visit Corpus Christi Texas

old concrete street amphitheater

Arguably one of the season's biggest shows, Weezer and Panic! at the Disco serve up a couple of generations of teen angst with a side of sugary pop-punk good times. The tour hits town on June 11 in what Corpus Christi Caller-Times calls the "Best of the Best Live Music Venue." With a 10,000 capacity Mainstage and the more intimate Pavillion that can hold 3,000, Concrete Street accommodates a wide array of touring acts and festivals. This summer's big names include Sublime, Sugar Ray and Everclear's Summerland Tour, Slightly Stoopid, Cody Johnson, In This Moment, and so much more. Look into the special VIP Experience packages for the best access.

Salt-N-Pepa - Summer Music
Salt-N-Pepa head up the I Love the 90s Tour

The American Bank Center Arena's July calendar ping-pongs the genres with gravelly country crooner (and former Clemson lineman) Lee Brice sharing a bill with Cody Johnson and Jason Boland mid-month and the I Love the 90s Tour with Salt-N-Pepa, Vanilla Ice, Kid 'N Play, Coolio and Color Me Badd bringing neon hip-hop realness to town near month's end. The venue's smaller room, the Selena Auditorium, named for our beloved hometown legend, Selena Quintanilla Perez, will feature 1964 The Tribute, commemorating the 50th anniversary of the Beatles last world tour, where nostalgia time travelers can honor the Fab 4 at this venerable venue by the bay.

Two Tons of Steel - Summer Music
Four cool guys equal Two Tons of Steel, headlining the Fourth of July show at Schlitterbahn

Ever rocked out in an inner tube? Or seen a two-stepper pogo? Well, you could at Schlitterbahn's Fourth of July Celebration (Happy 240th, America!) when Two Tons of Steel take the stage with their twangy rockabilly version of the Ramones' "I Wanna Be Sedated," among other rootsy boot scooters. This Padre Island waterpark features live music throughout the summer both inside the resort’s Pour Haus Lounge and outside, poolside on the big Freedom Stage. Holiday shows (Memorial Day, Father's Day, Fourth of July, Labor Day, etc.) offer resort deals as well as single admission. Check the calendar regularly for updates on acts, shows and specials.

The Band That Fell to Earth - Summer Music
The Band That Fell to Earth honors the life and lyricism of David Bowie

Operating between a ballpark and a waterpark, right in the heart of Corpus Christi's S.E.A. District (sports! entertainment! arts!), the funky brewsters at Brewster Street know how to throw a party. Each and every Thursday is Texas Throwdown country music night, each fourth Saturday is Hip Hop Hooray and every first Friday, Austin 80s nerd rockers the Spazmatics venture to the coast for their monthly beach residency where they literally sell out every. single. show. June shines a light and pours one out for some lost icons with the Erotic City Prince Tribute, June 10 and The Band That Fell to Earth David Bowie Odyssey on June 24.

Richie and CJ - Summer Music

Punk's not dead and definitely alive and kickin’ in Corpus Christi, where crusty hard rock, punk and metal scenes existed way before your grandpa was in Chuck Taylors and safety pins. Just in time for this summer's big 40th anniversary and reissue of the original Ramone debut LP, surviving band members keep that 3-chord wall of sound alive. CJ Ramone comes to town for the Go Skate Day After Party at the House of Rock on June 18.
