Pepe Serna and BONUS! Clarissa Serna
You may not recognize his name at first glance, but one look at his face inspires choruses of: “Oh, yeah! That guy! He was awesome in (fill-in-the-blank}.”
Hollywood legend Pepe Serna is indeed a Corpus Christi homeboy. While the respected Latino character actor is best known as the king of supporting roles in films like 70s urban comedy, Car Wash and one of the most iconic death scenes in 80s cinema, playing Miami drug mule, Angel, who meets a grim fate at the edge of a chainsaw in Brian DePalma’s Scarface, his TV work is a who’s who of 70s and 80s hits, including: Mannix, Kung Fu, The Rockford Files, Kojak, CHiPs, Barney Miller, Knight Rider, The A-Team, and of course, Miami Vice.

And if the last name sounds familiar, you might recognize his niece, Clarissa Serna, whose debut TV version of The Cranberries’ hit, “Zombie” on Season Six of NBC’s The Voice earned four chair turnarounds from the celebrity judges and is still one of the most memorable performances in the popular television show’s run. Serna is still very active as a singer and songwriter in the Texas music scene. Be sure to check the calendars at Brewster Street Ice House, Vino Mio, Katz 21 Steak & Spirits and other local clubs for dates. And like her talented uncle, she also is a respected fine art painter.
